DISSERTATION TIMELINE
(This is a suggested timeline. Individual chairs may follow other procedures.)
•
Student formally requests a Committee Chair and recruits committee members
•
Student prepares an outline paper (prospectus) of the proposed topic for the committee to review (this requirement may vary from chair to chair)
•
Student presents dissertation prospectus to committee
•
Committee reviews and approves prospectus and offers suggestions for revision
•
Student registers for Dissertation Seminar throughout the remaining process
•
Student continues research of literature and continues to become informed and knowledegable about the topic
•
Students begins writing Chapter 1 (Introduction and Statement of the problem and/or research question)
•
Students presents Chapter I to Chair for suggestions and revision recommendations
•
Student refines Chapter I
•
Student researches and writes Chapter II (Review of Literature) and presents to Chair for suggestions and revision recommendations
•
Student refines Chapter II
•
Student prepares for Written and Oral Comprehensives ensuring that they have completed 42 credits and have had their portfolio approved by the Chair
•
Student presents Written Comprehensive to chair who forwards to another committee member for approval
•
Student takes Oral Comprehensives
•
Students prepares and presents Public Defense of the Dissertation Topic
•
Student applies to IRB (if necessary) after the comps and public defense are completed
•
Student is official Doctoral Candidate in the EdD Program
Student can now continue his/her research for the dissertation. During this time period, the student continues to consult with the chair and committee informing them of progress. This is important so as to make the transition to the next step to the Final Dissertation Defense as smooth and comprehensive as possible.
